CHRISTMAS CARDS

September 1st, 2010 by school

Dear Parents/Carers,

CHRISTMAS CARDS

It has come to that time of year, well for the school anyway when Christmas is on its way.

This year the Parent Council are organising Christmas cards to be drawn by all the children from nursery to P7.  The templates will be in the class very soon for the children to be creative.

We have used a company that makes our job a lot easier, and even easier for you.  Each class will be given an ID number which will be given out once all the cards go live.  All you have to do is go online and order your cards etc and the order will be delivered to your door.

And of course the more you spend the more the school gets to spend on things for the school and the children.

More information will be sent out once the website for Hazlehead goes live.

Watch this space.

CHRISTMAS FAIR

Also our Christmas fair is well on the way to be organised, it will be on Saturday 27th November from 11 – 2pm.  If you know of anyone who would be willing to take a stall, then please call Donna on 315760.  I know there are a lot of talented people out there, and a brilliant way to showcase all their goods and talents.

Thank you once again

The Parent Council.

RECYCLING CENTRE

September 1st, 2010 by school

WEST OF CITY RECYCLING CENTRE

WE NEED YOUR HELP!!!!

As you will all be aware by now, Aberdeen City Council has approved a site in Grove Nursery (at the top of Hazlehead Avenue) to be used for a large recycling centre. Access to the site will be from Hazlehead Avenue, meaning traffic, including HGV’s will directly pass our school gates!! The Council are currently preparing a report to be submitted to the planning committee for approval which is expected to take place in the Autumn.

We must act now if:

We want to protect the children who cross Hazlehead Avenue to get to and from school (primary and academy)

We want to maintain Hazlehead Park as one of the biggest attractions for people who live in Aberdeen as well as for tourists

We want to minimse potential incidents due to increased congestion near the park, particularly for those families who regularly use the facilities in and around the park such as the golf course, football pitches, rugby pitches, cycle tracks etc.

We must ensure that the Council are aware of how strongly we feel that this site is not suitable for a large recycling centre.  These facilities should be located in industrial sites where there is easy road access – not where there are schools, a fabulous park and other sporting facilities.

There are two things you are asked to do:

Firstly, go to the Parent Pages of the School Website (www.hazlehead-ps.aberdeen.sch.uk). Print off one of the 5 template objection letters, sign it, put your address on it and post it to Aberdeen City Council.  The parent council have already written to Aberdeen City Council, expressing their concern, but this only registers as 1 objection.  We need as many parents as possible to register their objection too.

Secondly, there is a Public Meeting being held on Thursday 9th September, 7.30pm in Hazlehead Academy Assembly Hall.  Mr Pete Leonard, Director of Housing and Environment along with other officers of his department will be in attendance.  We need as many parents as possible to attend this meeting to ensure that the council can visibly see the strength of opposition to this proposal.  Please try and attend if at all possible.

If we take no action (or limited action) – this Recycling Centre will become a reality by 2011!!!!

LIBRARY HELPERS REQUIRED

As of next term we are looking for willing helpers that can help in the library on a Thursday. Currently we work on a fortnightly rota, but the more helpers we have the better.

We only take the P1 &P2 for library,we take the children through, read them a story a then they pick a new book that they may take home and read. Currently it runs on a Thursday afternoon from 1.15 -3pm, this may change, depending on the helpers we have and when you can manage.

The younger children really enjoy this and it is lovely helping the children. If you think you can help please call the school on 498120. You are required to be Discolsure checked which can be organised by collecting and filling in a form from the school office.

Proposed Re-Cycling Centre

April 26th, 2010 by school

A Message from the Parent Council

We have just been advised that Aberdeen City Council have approved the siting of a large recycling centre on Hazlehead Avenue (the site of Grove Nursery which is just down from the first car park and bus terminus of Hazlehead Park).  At the parent council meeting last week the feeling amongst parents was that this was wholly unacceptable on a number of levels, but primarily considering the safety of children crossing Hazlehead Avenue.
We intend to respond strongly to the City Council and would appreciate any thoughts or concerns the wider parent group might have.
Please e-mail parentcouncil@hazlehead-ps.aberdeen.sch.uk with your comments by Wednesday 28th April in order that a full response can be submitted to Aberdeen City Council.
For further details see the Parent Council Page.
on the school web-site.

CHANGE TO ACCESS TO THE SCHOOL

Please be advised, due to circumstances beyond our control, that vehicle and pedestrian access to the front of the school (entrance 1 on map previously issued) will be out of use until further notice.   The area will remain part of the building construction site for Phase 2.  Pedestrian access will be via the lane to the side entrance of the school (see 3 on the map) and the back entrance to the school(see 2 on the map).  Thank you in anticipation of your co-operation during the building of Phase 2, which will ensure the health and safety of the Hazlehead community.

We would remind you that our new telephone number is 498120.

CELEBRATIONS

We will be moving to the new school on Wednesday 24th March. School will be closed to pupils on Friday 19th March, Monday 22nd March and Tuesday 23rd March. During that time staff will spend their time working to get the school ready for the start of a new era for Hazlehead School.

We hope everyone who was able to attend, enjoyed the visit this week. I was delighted with the turn out and the positive feedback. Thank you to those people who made alternative arrangements for young children during the visit. Unfortunately I was left in a difficult situation with several parents who brought young children who were not pupils of the school. May I please request that Health and Safety is a legal requirement that we must adhere to.

QUESTIONNAIRE

Thank you to everyone who returned questionnaires. Your comments and suggestions are most welcome and will help us to improve. I will let the children know the class that returned the highest % of questionnaires.

PARENT HELPERS

If any parent is interested in helping in school please let us know we would welcome your help. Parental helpers will need to be disclosure checked. Please collect a form from the office if you would like to be a “Happy Helper.

MRS OPENSHAW AND MRS SMITH

Friday 26th March will be the last day at Hazlehead School for Mrs Openshaw and Mrs Smith. I would just like to say a very big thank you to them for all their dedication to the care and education of so many children over their years at the school. They will be greatly missed. I would personally like to thank them for the warm welcome they have given me to the school and for all their support in the transfer of information during the last six weeks. We shall think of them when we return to school on Monday April 12th as they decide what to do with their retirement. We wish them well and say a very big THANK YOU.
